HEART TO HEART

November 9, 2006

Dear Friends,

Blessings to you and yours this Thanksgiving season.  I find that, as a human, it is easier to thank God for His blessings and provisions that make life easier than it is to thank Him even in tough circumstances or when He is silent.  Recently, after seeing God answer our prayers concerning property for our new campus, I was giving Him thanks for providing, for teaching me patience during the process over the last 6-7 months, and for His taking into consideration every detail of our requests and needs.  Then I wondered:  Have I been just as thankful and loved Him just as much during times of waiting, times of His silence, times when He answered “no” to my prayers?  If for no one else, these past few months have been for me--to increase my faith in my Father.  Once again He has proven that “He always shows up and He always comes through for us.”  Most importantly, He always has our best interests at heart!

So this Thanksgiving, above all else, I am thankful to my Father because He always has my best interests at heart.  I thank Him that He is much more concerned about my character being shaped than about my worldly circumstances.  Yes, I know that He is interested in every detail of our lives, but He is ultimately concerned about His character that is being formed in us as His children.  I thank Him for that and many other things.

One of the great blessings is that He has provided a new campus for Westwood Ministries’ use.  Our new retreat location will be near Mountain Home about a 20-25 minute drive from Kerrville.  Westwood will have the usage of the 137 acre ranch which is  high-fenced and has many exotic wildlife roaming the hills.  We will be developing and building our lodge over the next few months, so if you have the energy and time we will have an opportunity for you to swing a hammer, paint, clean, or dig a ditch.  We are grateful to God for His provision.  See our website for photos of the land and a map of its location.

I would like to formally invite you to our annual Westwood Christmas Gala.  This year the gala will be held at Calvary Temple Church located at 3000 Loop 534 in Kerrville, December 9 from 6-10 p.m.  and will be filled with times of food, fun and celebration to the King! Please see the enclosed flyer for more details.

Christmas is the time of year that the “Friends of Westwood,” who are our prayer and financial support warriors, are given an opportunity to pledge their team support  for this new year of 2007.  These pledges are the “backbone” of our budget each year, so we are extremely grateful for your prayers for this mission to kingdom leaders and your prayerful financial support that helps make it happen.  Enclosed you will find a Partner Pledge Card.  Please take time to pray over this opportunity for kingdom investment and either bring your card to the gala or send it in with your gift.

I am personally grateful to you for your partnership in this kingdom ministry.  2007 will begin our 17th year of ministry.  God is using you and other brothers and sisters to enable this front line ministry of Westwood to stay strong and continue to impact the lives of His kingdom leaders. Thanks.

I love to hear from you, so give me a call at 210-912-6584 and let’s share and pray together.

Blessings in His Grace,

Dave Gentry, Founding Director
